Sharefest Celebration - Guatmala Part 2

Sunday morning. Iglesia Biblica has moved its service to a Jr High that was a Sharefest project site. The day before some of the young men moved the musical instruments from church to school and setup a raised platform for today’s celebration. I learned that these guys spent the night guarding the equipment. Crime is high here.

The celebration began with singing…. of course it was in Spanish. But I recognized several of the songs and joined along in English which didn’t seem to annoy the folks around us.

After a short message on the unity of believers given by a pastor from White Stone Mennonite Church in Kansas (friends of Iglesia Biblica down to help with Sharefest) and translated by Pastor Teddy Torres, several people were invited to give testimony to their experience. One is a teacher, who I don’t think is a believer. She described their new outdoor classroom with great enthusiasm. She was so grateful and called on the people who helped to stand up so they could be thanked.

This is the third year for Sharefest in Guatemala City. It’s having a real influence in the community as most churches are inwardly focused.

After testimonies from a High School principal and a teenage girl who led a project, we traveled back to the church for an awesome Guatemalan lunch.

Lori, David, and I, the Kansas group, and Teddy, Candy, and their son  jumped in the van and headed to Antigua for dinner.

We didn’t know that we were headed for a religious event drawing thousands (part 3)….
